Solitude and Silence

Live a Praying Life by Jennifer Kennedy Dean

To live in intimacy with God, we must build into our lives the discipline of solitude and silence. We must respond when the Lover of our souls calls us to a place of solitude to be alone with Him.

“Therefore I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her” (Hos. 2:14).

Prayer Action Points: Week 26

“O LORD, you have searched me and you know me” (Ps. 139:1).

Each morning this week, during your prayer time, use Psalm 139:1-6. Read it through slowly each morning, concentrating on each phrase. Focus on a different verse each morning, turning it into your personal prayer and allowing the Spirit of God to speak personally to you. Keep that verse in your thoughts all day long, praying it as situations arise.

Prayer Action Points: Week 25

“Whoever obeys his command will come to no harm, and the wise heart will know the proper time and procedure” (Eccl. 8:5).

During your prayer times this week, ask the Lord to tell you anything He wants you to do today—any action He wants you to take. Express your faith to Him that, when the time comes, you will know what to do and how to do it. Be alert every moment of your day for His command.

Prayer Action Points: Week 24

“As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you” (Isa. 62:5).

This week, begin your prayer time by feeling the Lord’s pleasure in your presence. Be aware of how delighted He is to have time alone with you. Let His love for you and His joy in you fill your soul with peace and contentment.

Prayer Action Points: Week 23

“He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught” (Isa. 50:4).

This week, during your prayer time, consider that you are there at His invitation. He has invited you to spend time alone with Him because He has something beneficial to teach you and say to you. Consider how that changes the atmosphere of your prayer time. Write your observations in your journal.

More Than Believing Something

Live a Praying Life by Jennifer Kennedy Dean

Faith is more than believing something; faith is believing Someone. Faith is not committing yourself to an idea, but to a person. Faith is responding to the present-tense Voice of the Father.

“By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going” (Heb. 11:8).

The One who promised is faithful. How has He proved Himself faithful in your life?

Same But Different

We all  have the same Spirit, but His indwelling presence activates different gifts and different passions and different approaches. He does not make us clones of each other, but instead brings out our uniqueness. He fits us together into a congruous entity made up of differing parts. The converging of the differing pieces give the whole its beauty.
